Wars and Commanders

Wars mean destruction, eliminating human lives, even civilians. While another side, they’re also kinds of human competitions, for benefits of own groups and nations, as well as glory and inspirations, like what sports competitions doing. They were fierce in human histories, but unfortunately never able to avoid due to different interests and opinions between groups of people and nations.
In wars, good commanders managed to overcome ever difficult situations, while bad commanders lost even with stronger strength. The art of war used by good commanders inspired not only for soldiers, but also affecting people in peacetime competitions, such as business and others.
Although wars can still happen and complete peace can be only dream, we still wish less wars, more negotiations, and asking strong groups and nations to be less greedy. Though all soldiers fighting for wars, whatever won or defeated, we remember them for their dedicated contributions, with respect.

The book ‘Kursk, The German View’ on 4th Panzer Army

The 4th Panzer Army, mainly the 2nd SS Panzer Corps and the great tank battle at Prokhorovka was the most important sector of Kursk battle, though in the book ‘Kursk, the German View’ it had poor information even less than the weakest Corps Raus. The author on this army, 4th Panzer Army Chief of Staff General Fangohr, seems  the secondary 48th Panzer Corps but almost nothing about 2nd SS Panzer Corps.

The army commander General Hoth and SS corps commander General Hausser both wrote a few articles, but may some of them still in deutsche unfortunately.

Yom Kippur War on Golan Heights

I recently began to read Samuel’s book ‘Israeli Tank Battales – Yom Kippur To Lebanon’. The 1988-year book is not so detailed, only 122 pages includes lots of photos. It more a story style books other than showing complete and accurate picture of the war.

The Syrian attack on Golan Heights, destroyed the main body of 188th Brigade in south and also the elite 7th Tank Brigade almost to the end in north. The fight on the “Valley of Tears” may a mistake on Syrians’ side (may they had no choice because the situation of terrain, and no enough time for maneuver). Although Syrian forces was much strong than Israelis (7th Infantry Division and 3rd Armoured Division in north, 9th Infantry, 5th Infantry Division and 1st Armoured Division in south, comparing to Israeli had 3 brigades in defences, 7th Tank Bridge in north, 188th Bridge in south, and Golani Brigade in defence strongholds), they should have reserve to extend the most success flank (in the case the southern Golan), but not threw tanks of 3rd Armoured Division and later Republic Guard into the stronghold around Booster ridge.

The north Syrians stuck in front of Booster Ridge while south Syrians advanced to Jordan river, but pushed back finally by 5 Israeli Reserve Tank Brigades(although weak and not effective like 7th and 188th).
